Sfouf, Lebanese Cake with Carob Molasses

Preparation time: 30 mins

For 5 people

 

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 200g flour
  • 250g carob molasses
  • 250ml anise infusion with 2 cloves 
  • 100ml vegetable oil 
  • 1 tbsp orange blossom water
  • 1 tsp baking powder 
  • 1 handful of sesame seeds (as desired) 

Preparation:

 

  1. Mix the flour and baking powder in a bowl. 
  2. Prepare the infusion with anise and cloves. 
  3. Pour the oil into the bowl and continue mixing. 
  4. Add the anise infusion, then the carob molasses. Finally, flavor with the orange blossom water. Mix until smooth and even. 
  5. Pour the batter into a previously oiled mold (preferably square or rectangular), then sprinkle with sesame seeds. 
  6. Bake in a hot oven (180°C) for 30 mins.
